Is it really catching up if…
…I’m always “catching up”? I’ve been really bad updating this thing, huh?
Oh well… Here goes again…
Well, football season (for us) is finally over. Thank God. Don’t get me wrong, it was a lot of fun and I’m really glad I did it, but holy time sucker. The practices weren’t bad, but the entire weekend sucked away were really hard for me to deal with. I guess if I wasn’t coming home to five thousand loads of laundry it wouldn’t be so bad, but still. Anyways, we ended up with an 0-8 record, most of the games we got our asses handed to us… I think we scored 4 times all season, only one on offense… Yikes. Oh well, most of the team were rookies and we didn’t have our stuff together at all. I think a lot of it was frustration on everyone’s part. The newbies b/c even though we worked our tails off, we almost never got any playing time, and the fat lazy cows (they know who they are) always played and never showed up to practice. Anyways, our last game was in Vegas, so that was nice to go home (for me) to finish the season. Some of my friends came out, one that I haven’t seen in about 7 years since I left Vegas! That was so cool! So anyways, right now I’m living vicariously through Pritchett who is in Montreal right now in their playoff game. I really hope they pull off the win - it’s 21-7, Montreal, at the half right now…
Assurant (one of our carriers) had a pre-showing of the Disney Pixar movie Wall-E yesterday morning. So I packed the kids up and met Don at the theater. It was pretty crowded, so I’m glad we got there early like we did. The movie was awesome, I loved it. The kids had a great time and Hunter was at the edge of her seat almost the entire time. I don’t think either of them blinked once.
Since I was already off with the kids on this side of town in the morning, I decided to take the rest of the day off and take the kids to Cliff’s. It was their very first time to any kind of amusement park. The very first ride when you walk into the park is the Sidewinder. Lincoln said “THAT is the one he wanted to go on!”. Riiiiiiight… However, right next to that was the Rocky Mountain Rapids log ride… I thought “what the heck” if they can make it through that, they can make it through anything… :) The height limit to ride was 36″, which Lincoln BARELY squeaked by… Barely… So we got in line and got in the log Lincoln in front, then Hunter, then me. All squeezed into the front part of the log. We floated along, and they thought that was the ride… Got to the top and barrelled down the chute. I don’t think I heard one peep out of either of them going down. At the end I asked if they liked it and they said yes, but Hunter said it was “a little bit scary.” HA HA HA HA HA!!! I’m so mean. After that we headed off to Kiddieland so they could ride some rides by themselves. Here are some pictures of them riding the rides. After Kiddieland we went on the “Big Flush” water coaster. I can’t find any pics, so here’s the link to Cliff’s where it also shows the Water Monkeys, where we went last. They had a great time, and I was so proud that no one threw up or refused to go on anything. Those are certainly my kids!
In other musings, the wall is on its way to getting built… The crew from Beaty that Don hired to lay the block have been coming out during the week, Don thinks it’ll be done in 2 weeks. It looks awesome so far, I’m so excited!!! I’d post pics, but I’m sure Don will post them on his soon… ![]()
Trying to keep up…
I’ve been really bad lately about updating this thing… I try, really, but most of the time I just can’t think of anything to write.
Don has been super busy with the wall… His parents came out last week to help him with the footings. They got everything done within 2 days! They worked their tails off the entire time. I am so grateful for them coming out to help - I know there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that we would have been able to do that on our own. Well, not as fast as they did it anyways… Don’s blog shows the trenches before they poured the concrete and some of the corner footings he did by himself. I’m surprised he hasn’t uploaded the rest of the pictures and updated his blog… Anyways, keep track of his blog to see pics of the wall progress… I think that he’s going to get some guys from work to lay the block in a few weeks. So it’s a reality, it really might be done by the end of July! I’m sure he’ll make sure of that…
Anyways, the kids are doing really well… They’re both doing a really cool project at school this summer - they are learning about the United States of America. I talked to Lincoln’s teacher today and she said that all of them could recite the 5-6 states they’ve learned so far when she’d point to them. That’s pretty cool for 3 year olds, I think. The parents were asked to have people send postcards from all of the states, so I sent an email to pretty much everyone I know. I figured even if a few people did it, that would be cool. The kids are SO excited when they get a new one. I told them I’d get them each a scrapbook/photo album at the end of the summer so they could keep them. They’re stoked.
Football is going alright… I love it, and I have a lot of fun, but I don’t play all that much. It’s really frustrating and disappointing because I bust my butt at practice and don’t play much. There are other chicks that never show up to practice and they play every snap. So as much as I’d love to play next year, it isn’t going to happen… Too time consuming with not enough reward. It was nice though, when we went to Tucson, we only had 16 players (11 have to be on the field at all times) and 7 starters stayed behind (injuries). We had the best game we’ve had all year and we only lost by 1 point! It was amazing. AND it was nice to PLAY… Oh well… Only 2 games left…
My last entry is a very sad one… I’ve been on a “Military Families” message board since about 2003, I like to think that the girls there are “friends” of mine, even though a majority of them I’ve never met. But we’ve shared family stories, pictures, smiles, etc… Anyways, one of the girls on there lost her husband Tuesday in Afghanistan…
He was killed by a roadside bomb. It is even more depressing because she has 2 boys - one I think is around 10 and the other is almost 2… Knowing that he won’t be home to see those boys grow up absolutely breaks my heart. Here’s Daphne’s Dad’s blog that tells more about Scott. I haven’t really “known” anyone that has died in the war except for someone who was in AIT at the same time as us. I didn’t really know him well, just really knew of him… If you believe in God or a higher power, please pray for Daphne, Jonathan & Samuel to make it through this horrible time…
Time flies.
Last night my baby girl graduated from pre-school. I can’t believe she’ll be headed off to Kindergarten in the fall!!! She won’t really be “headed” anywhere because she’s staying at Covenant for Kindergarten, but it’ll still be strange to have a “grade-schooler.” Wow…

Hunter with her teachers
Her class had their field trip today, so I took the day off to hang out with her and to help chaperone the field trip. There were a lot of other parents that were there, so it was very manageable. It was a lot of fun, but I know for sure I can never be a teacher. That’s a special breed of people. :) The kids’ school is close to a bowling alley, so two of the 4-year old classes went on a walking trip to the alley. It was fun, the kids had a blast bowling and they got hot dogs and sodas for lunch. Hunter isn’t a fan of soda (thank God), so she was good and drank her water. :) Then we walked back and they had an ice cream party. Got them good and sugared up right before nap time…

We came home last night and saw that the lot to the North of us had been cleared… Bummer… I mean, it’ll be nice to have a neighbor to that side, but I was hoping that it’d be untouched for a little longer. I just hope they’re not ghetto neighbors like the ones that live across the street from us. With their jacked up Hummer with the HUGE speakers that you can hear a mile away. Ugh, that’s the most irritating thing in the whole world. Thanks for shaking my walls, pal, I really appreciate that. *insert sarcasm here* Anyways, another plus to having someone buy that lot - hopefully they’ll be willing to split the cost of the wall!!! That would be awesome. I really liked being out here with no one else really on our street around us. Before long, this won’t be able to happen:

They landed right on 5th Avenue, just one lot away from us. I love it.
Tack on Another “L”
So we played Tucson tonight, they were 0-3. We were 0-2. Someone had to win…
Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t us… Shocker. Our team played really well, better than I thought we’ve played in the last 2 games. But it wasn’t enough. We were up 7-0 at halftime, but they came back out swinging…
I guess that if the coach would have played some of us “2nd string” players more often to give the “good players” some rest, maybe it would have been different. Maybe not.
I’m just bitter because last night I told the team I wouldn’t be able to play since Don was flying out to Kansas this morning and I didn’t have anyone to watch the kids for the 6-7 hours I’d have to be gone tonight. I got a huge guilt trip and was told “we really need you.” However, through the progression of the game, I played a whole 3, yes, I said THREE, plays. Real nice. I’m agitated… I understand it’s a TEAM sport and it’s not how much YOU play, but when I get a freaking babysitter to watch the kids all night and don’t play, that pisses me off. I could have spent quality time with the kids (since Don is gone) and taken them to the game for a bit… But no.
